The main component of acid-resistant bricks is SiO2. The main component of acid-resistant bricks is SiO2. When SiO2 burns at high temperatures, it will produce a large amount of polygallic acid salts and xanthic acid salts, which have strong acid resistance. Due to its high density and low water absorption rate, acid-resistant bricks can also resist alkali at room temperature. However, they are not resistant to alkali at high temperatures.
Advantages of acid-resistant bricks
Chemical resistance
Acid-resistant bricks have excellent corrosion resistance, with a corrosion resistance level of up to 99.8% against acids and alkalis. They can be used in harsh chemical environments for a long time without degrading.
Low water absorption
The standard water absorption rate of acid-resistant bricks is 0.5 - 2.0%. The porosity of acid-resistant bricks is low, and their water absorption capacity is reduced. This characteristic is very important because it can prevent water penetration, avoid chemical reactions and subsequent degradation.
Mechanical strength
Acid-resistant bricks have high strength and high wear resistance. Their compressive strength is greater than 100 MPa and they are not prone to damage.
Classification of acid-resistant bricks
Ordinary unglazed acid-resistant bricks
These acid-resistant bricks have an unglazed surface. After being fired at high temperatures, the entire brick body becomes completely porcelainized, with a low water absorption rate.
Glazed acid-resistant bricks
These acid-resistant bricks have a glazed surface and the brick body has also been fired at high temperatures, becoming fully porcelainized with a low water absorption rate.
Matte glazed acid-resistant tiles
These acid-resistant tiles have a glaze on their surface, but the glaze is not very bright. They are more attractive than ordinary unglazed tiles, but they are more slip-resistant than glazed acid-resistant tiles. The tile body is also made of full porcelain.
Application of acid-resistant bricks
Chemical industry
Acid-resistant and wear-resistant bricks are used to construct equipment that comes into contact with acidic media, such as chemical plants, chemical laboratories, acid washing towers and acid tanks. They can resist the erosion of strong acids and ensure the long-term stable operation of the equipment.
Electric power industry
In power stations and plants, acid-resistant and wear-resistant bricks are commonly used to construct acid-resistant layers to prevent acidic gases from damaging equipment and building structures. For example, in desulfurization devices, acid-resistant and wear-resistant bricks are used to build reactors and absorption towers.
Refining industry
There are a large amount of acidic media in refineries, such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid. Acid-resistant and wear-resistant bricks are widely used on the inner walls of refining equipment (including distillation towers, reactors and storage tanks) to protect the equipment from corrosion.
Food processing industry
In some food processing procedures, acidic solutions or acidic cleaners may be used. Acid-resistant and wear-resistant bricks can be applied to the interiors of food processing equipment, pipes, and storage containers to ensure their tolerance to acidic media and meet hygiene requirements.
Laboratories and the pharmaceutical industry
In certain processes within chemical laboratories, pharmaceutical factories, and pharmaceutical companies, acid-resistant and wear-resistant bricks are commonly used to construct reactors, solvent storage areas, and acid washing equipment to protect against the corrosion of acidic substances.
